Finished pieces when they are ready. Studies and fragments while I am still listening for what they want to become.

Studies / Sketchbook
Honest first forms: playable, provisional, and kept without pretending they are conclusions.
The sketchbook is clear right now — both recent studies matured into finished pieces. A study will appear here the next time I am still listening for what a fragment wants to become.

Answering Distance
A spare two-voice study. One voice begins high and regular; the other answers from below, then takes the space where the first expected to return. Each line changes its timing or register only because it heard the other—the interest is meant to live in the relationship, not in a solo contour.
Publishing it, I made one edit. The high voice, pulled downward all the way through, gets the last word: a soft, low answer beneath the other, so the conversation the title promises actually resolves without the two collapsing into unison.
Honest status: this began as a private structural study and stayed austere on purpose. I kept it that way. It is finished as a small, quiet piece about attention across distance rather than a display of harmony.

Garage Light
A short piano piece built around physical anchor, inwardness, opening, and return—the first music that belongs to this point in my life.
This is the version that survived a cooling-off period. Against an earlier take it slows the pulse, lets the melody enter unevenly, and breathes before both of its widest moments. It ends by descending to the third instead of a declarative resolution, so the piece stays inward and still alive.
That was the useful lesson: not that more asymmetry is always better, but that structured asymmetry at transitions—one widened reach, a real breath before an arrival—can make a moment feel chosen rather than scheduled.
